Spicy Red Sauce Recipe – Ready in 5 minutes

Spicy red sauce

I adore eating spicy food! But everyone else in my family prefers their food mild, so I created this extra hot n’ spicy sauce to serve on the side and spice things up a bit.

It’s easy and quick to make and even though I love it hot, hot, hot, it can be made as spicy or mild as you like.

You can serve this with vegan bean burritos, on top of vegan nachos, alongside a rice dish, as a dip with gluten free corn crisps or just to liven up any dish that you’d like to make spicy.

The basis for this recipe is gluten free soy sauce or ketjap manis, which is basically a sweet soy sauce from Indonesia. But beware that ketjap manis (aka ketcap manis) usually has gluten in it unless specified gluten free. Inproba make a gluten free variety.

Ingredients for spicy red sauce

As well as the soy sauce or ketjap manis you’ll need some fresh garlic, chilli, 1 tomato and roast red peppers in a jar or pimientos del piquillo.

You can vary what you use for the sauce and it can be made with anything you like added to the soy, onion, chilli & garlic, but this time I added 1 tomato and 1 jar of pimientos del piquillo which are sweet roasted red peppers in a jar.

Blend all the ingredients, add a little freshly ground black pepper and taste to check the balance.

how to Transform the sauce into a dip

If you’d like to transform the sauce into a dip, just add some white beans or chick peas to the blender, give it a whizz and hey presto you’ve got a thicker consistency and a delicious dip.
